Writer In Motion: Joining the Adventure

I’ve decided to tag along a participate in #WriterInMotion!

What is this event you ask? Well, it’s a multi-week journey where several writers are demonstrating how they take a story from prompt to polished. It all starts with one image (the prompt) and an assignment: write a story of 500 words or less and post it up on your blog for the world to see. The catch? No editing allowed!

No editing… Scary isn’t it?

From there, each author will self-edit their piece and post up a new version. Next, they’ll be yet another version incorporating feedback from critique partners. Finally, a professional editor will take a look and provide feedback which is incorporated into the final story. In essence, this is a small-scale demonstration of the process that authors go through when they take the idea for a novel and transform it into a polished manuscript.

You can read all the details and find links to participating author blogs here. Also, follow along on twitter using the #WriterInMotion hashtag.

I look forward to sharing my personal journey with you all over the next several weeks. The prompt is up, and my story idea is already taking shape. A hint? My obsession with the show Expedition Unknown may turn up front and center in my short story. You’ll have to wait until next week to see how that plays out on the page.
